Still Alive Edition: IGF Finalists, TM News, and More
Indeed, mG is still alive! It's just that real life is getting busier and busier =(
So many things to talk about, where to start? First of all, finalists for this year's IGF is out for a while. As (somewhat) expected, games like Blueberry Garden, Dyson and Night Game made it in, while some other unexpected entries, like You Have To Burn The Rope, also somehow ended up in there, lol. Congratulations to Cortex Command for finally making it in, and Machinarium is looking mightily good.
In other IGF news, the 2009 IGF Student Showcase winners are out, and voting for the Audience Award is currently underway.
On the NICALiS front, the Wii port of Cave Story is looking good. A trailer for Night Game is finally out in the wild, but the bad news is that Night Game, for now, is Wii-only...NOOOOOOOOO!
On to Type-Moon news, Type-Moon Ace 2 was released last month, while a new TM Mobile Site project called Mahou Tsukai no Hako was also announced, too bad cellphone is not the primary tool for web browsing here in the U.S. =(
In other news, the next game in the Touhou series, Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object (UFO, lolz), was announced by ZUN. The new game will feature Sanae as a playable character?
Finally, TIGSource is running a new compo this month called Cockpit Compo:
After a brief intermission, we is back with another competition in the hizzle f’shizzle… say hello to the TIGSource Cockpit Compo! We’ve all seen games that featured a cockpit of some kind – some of us have even played and loved a game with a cockpit in it. But let’s face it, it’s still a relatively underused concept in games.
Whether you’re in a plane, a car, a mech, or even a human being, cockpits act as a powerful HUD or second screen between you and the rest of the game. They can be props that add a sense of dynamism and realism to a game, and they can provide visual data. They can also be interactive. As usual, we’re keeping the rules pretty vague for this compo – how can you make a cockpit work for you?
The compo ends on March 29th, expect lots of good entries (hopefully)!
