TIGSource's latest competition, the Bootleg Demakes Compo, has finally come to an end.
There's a record number of submission this time around, whether it's because this kind of event is getting more popular or because it takes less effort to make a low-res crappy game is beyond me.
With that said, this time the theme is to take a game or series or whatever, turn it into an "old-school" style game. The concept is great, but don't expect anything with out-of-this-world graphics or gameplay this time around.
Below is an obligatory look at some of the more interesting titles that stood up for me, although to tell the truth, most of the entries this time were either too simple or too unfun (trying to be polite here) to keep my interest for more than, say, 15 minutes. Anyway, here goes!
Nobody Shooter

A demake of an indie game, goes a long way to show how popular some indie games can get, but when the said indie game is already very simple in terms of gameplay, don't expect the demake to be anymore simpler other than the graphic and music department. Of course, the game play is still pretty good, the game plays like one of those black-and-white era Game Boy games, and will likely keep your interest for about 20 minutes max.
Rocket Belt Rawr

A demake of Jetpack Brontosaurus, where your goal is to collect fruity-looking things. The biggest challenge of this game is probably its navigation, other than that, a fun little time-waster for about a minute.
Artifact's House Globe

Probably the best looking game out of the bunch. The gameplay looks really good too, until you realize it's an online-only game (or maybe the single player mode is just really well hidden). Can't say how the game plays since I didn't have time to try it out (takes forever, a.k.a. over a minute, to connect to a client), but just the opening screen alone is enough for me to, just for a little bit, like this game. Oh, and it's got great music. I wouldn't be surprised if this game won the competition.
*Edit: It seems like there is a single player mode, so now this game's status goes from good to awesome, on the demake scale, that is ;)
I'd like to write about more games, but at the moment there just isn't enough time to play through a bunch of games that looks like they came straight out of a time machine, perhaps more will be added later. Edit: Will, I don't have time to play any of the entries...but Aquarium does look very neat.
*Despite the tone of this post, I'd like to still congratulate all entries, and a good job to their author for creating these games, I just wanted this post to be a mean-post, that's all! No hard feelings ;)
