Comiket 74 is Here, and Lots of Type-Moon News

So Comiket 74 has come to a pass, and again history has been re-written! Hopefully after this post, I'll stop writing so many Type-Moon-related posts and focus more on other stuff so this place doesn't turn into a TM fansite. First of all, this summer the TM people attended the convention not in the industry area, but the doujin area surrounded by BL groups, and as it turns out, the line to their booth, Bamboo Broom, was so long that it was legendary (poor Ed), I'm sure there are going to be blogs talking about it somewhere (Edit: Here it is!).

Anyway, back to the meat of the story, the new Kara no Kyoukai chapter that was released, "Mirai Fukuin," is nothing short of amazing. Aside from the short comics included, the story is also very interesting (not just the tabletop conversation as told in the original manuscript). Without further ado, here's a brief summary of the story and the comics that came with it.

[ If you haven't realized already, the following content contains major spoiler! ]

[ Also, it is assumed that if you read this, you have at least some idea of what KnK is about and who the characters are! ]

First is a short comic that takes place in 1998 August. Mikiya asks Shiki to take care of a cat (black cat!), Mikiya asks his sister Azaka to check up on Shiki, Azaka thinks Shiki and the cat looks alike, hilarity ensues. Also after this, cat ears begin appearing on Shiki for some strange reason! XDDD

Onto the main story. In the first scene, Shiki is shown killed by a bomb from the mad bomber villain dude Merka Kuramitsu. In this story, two people with the "Future Vision" mystic eyes appear, the much talked-about Shizune Seo and the villain Merka Kuramitsu (DDD anyone?). Of course, their powers are different, as explained by EvoSpace on his forum:

In this novel, 3 (or 4) kinds of future perception were explained:

1. Shizune Seo's future perception. Which shows a glimpse of the predicted future, calculated from the hyper processing of the massively collected present data. She's doing this unconsciously with her ability and she sees a vision when she's suddenly aware of it. This future can be changed by working against it, as Mikiya believed her story and saved a man who was about to die in an accident.

2. The villain, Merka Kuramitsu's future perception. He can vision a image of the future, and the methods to obtain that future. He sees the unchangeable vision of Shiki's death, but because this vision took a concrete shape, Shiki was able to kill it.

3. Shiki Ryogi's future perception by gut feeling/sixth sense.

4. The true future perception who is actually looking at the future instead of calculating like the 1st method or guessing like the 3rd method. There's a mysterious old woman with this power in the novel (but I couldn't tell if she's related to one of the names mentioned in the Type-Moon world...) However, this future can still be changed; She was running a fortune teller business to prevent people's misfortune.

Tohko also mentions there are people (or concepts) who are able to receive a message from the future and/or shifting to a parallel world.

So Shiki still can't kill the uncertain future.

So there you have it, while Mikiya talks poor Shizune into coming into acceptance with her powers and joining his harem, Shiki battles Merka to the death, all the while kills the future where she dies by Merka's bombs (in the book, the paragraph describing her death is crossed out, very creative!)

There are two more short comics, one involves the friend of one of the suiciders from the first chapter, who attempts to commit suicide but is "saved" by none other than the most awesome character from the series, Fujino Asagami. The second story involves Mikiya and Shiki going to a shrine together on New year's Eve, and poor Azaka finds out about it (lol).

There's also a bonus epilogue where a dude brings a girl to an old fortune teller. And the child is none other than Ryougi Mana, the love product of Shiki and Mikiya!

[ End spoiler ]

And that's all! Unfortunately, it seems the poster from Takeuchi-sensei for the forest protection thingy will be extremely expensive, looks like I won't be getting a copy T_T

Also, for those interested, Mirror Moon has released an updated English patch for Tsukihime Plus+Disc, complete with subliminal Neko-Arc.

Finally, since there was C74 in the title, here are some C74-related links for your enjoyment:

I would love to link more if the Chinese government didn't decide to make the internet super slow over here.
